Some photographer learn their photography skills from photography school. But many of us did not manage to enter photography school. Some of us enjoying photography as their hobby and some change their career from doctor, lawyer, engineer to photographer just because they love photography. So how do you get the photography skills if you are not in the photography schools? Read books and practice a lot is the best way to learn photography. Here I will mention few books that I have used and still using to enhance my photography skills.

This month, at Putrajaya, Malaysia we have the world biggest water screen show. I went out to try shooting water screen for the first time. At first I thought I can use the same setting I used to shoot fireworks. But I was wrong. For fireworks, you need to use very slow shutter speed 2 , 10 or sometimes even 30 seconds is used. But for water screen shot, I have to use faster shutter speed. The best is 1/8 and above. It was quite hard actually to get the right exposure because of the faster shutter speed.

When I first started photography 4 years ago, I am having trouble to understand about what is exposure. But after a while I’ve got the idea. Today I will introduce to you what is exposure and I will guide you to a simplified step by step guide on what is exposure and how to use it. This post will be divided into three sections. The first one is the general view about exposure which I have introduced to you just now and the second which I will tell you after this is about the factors or the elements that makes the exposure and the last part of the post will guide you on how each elements of exposure affects each other and how to use them effectively.

In my last week’s post, I wrote about how to achieve a balanced pictures with the use of rule of third technique. This post is the next article on the composition technique series.
Leading lines is used to lead the viewer’s eye into the image or a subject in the image such as from right to left, bottom to top. This technique is best use for landscape and other panoramic sceneries.

Long before the DSLR comes to life, the photographer used a very simple camera. It really test the photographer’s skills. But today half of the hardship has been reduced by the sophisticated electronic camera. The image are sharper, the exposure are more accurate. But still there is one important element to complete the best pictures criteria still cannot be done by today’s sophisticated camera and that is composition. No matter how sharp the image is, how beautiful the colour is, how accurate the exposure is, the image wont be the best if the composition part failed.
