Leading lines

May 20, 2008

In my last week’s post, I wrote about how to achieve a balanced pictures with the use of rule of third technique. This post is the next article on the composition technique series.

Leading lines is used to lead the viewer’s eye into the image or a subject in the image such as from right to left, bottom to top. This technique is best use for landscape and other panoramic sceneries. The example of leading lines are:

  • road towards mountain
  • river towards the sea / from mountain
  • or a series of objects lines up towards the subject

Practical Example:

See how the road is used to lead the viewer’s eye to the small town area.

Hope you enjoy this article and feel free to give comments and ideas.
